FreightPOP Deliveries (FPD)

Overview

A FreightPOP Delivery (FPD) is a delivery transaction created from a Sales Order within FreightPOP. FPDs allow logistics teams to plan shipments and create full or partial deliveries based on items from a sales order.

FPDs are typically used when shipment planning occurs inside the Transportation Management System (TMS) and orders are imported from an external system (such as an ERP or order management system).

Once created, an FPD becomes an outbound transaction that can be shipped individually or consolidated with other shipments.

When to Use FreightPOP Deliveries (FPDs)

FPDs should be used when the following conditions exist:

1. Planning Happens in the TMS

Shipment planning is performed within FreightPOP rather than in the customer’s ERP system.

2. Orders Are Imported

The system imports Sales Orders into FreightPOP from the customer's system.

3. Partial Shipments Are Common

The customer frequently ships partial orders rather than complete orders.

4. Orders Are Batch Imported

Orders are typically batch imported into FreightPOP for shipment planning.

When these conditions exist, FreightPOP Deliveries allow logistics teams to manage shipment planning directly from the Sales Orders.

Why FreightPOP Deliveries Are Used

FPDs provide several operational benefits:

Shipment Planning

Allows logistics teams to determine which orders or items are ready to ship.

Partial Shipment Management

Users can ship individual items or partial quantities from a sales order.

Shipment Consolidation

FPDs can be:

  • Shipped individually

  • Consolidated with other FPDs on the same load or shipment.

Quantity Validation

Ensures users do not overship items beyond the original order quantity.

Shipment Tracking

Tracks:

  • Original quantity

  • Shipped quantity

  • Remaining quantity

Required System Rules for FPDs

To use FreightPOP Deliveries, certain rules must be enabled.

Navigate to:

Rules → Order Types

The following rules must be turned on.

1. Sales Order Management

Purpose

Enables the Sales Orders tab where shipment planning occurs.

Without this rule enabled
The order management window will only show:

  • Outbound Transactions

  • Inbound Transactions

With the rule enabled
A Sales Orders tab appears, allowing planning before shipments are created.

2. Create Deliveries From Orders

This rule allows users to create deliveries directly from sales orders.

It also enables the ability to create:

  • Full deliveries

  • Partial deliveries

Without this rule, users cannot generate FPDs from orders.

3. Sales Order Product Quantity Validation (Recommended)

This rule prevents users from:

  • Overshipping products

  • Shipping items not included in the original order

The system validates shipment quantities against the original order quantity.

If a user attempts to exceed the allowed quantity, the system will display an error message and prevent the shipment.

How FreightPOP Deliveries Work

Step 1 – Orders Are Imported

Sales orders are batch imported into FreightPOP.

They appear in the:

Sales Orders Tab

Step 2 – Logistics Team Plans Shipments

The logistics team reviews the orders and determines:

  • Which orders are ready to ship

  • Whether the shipment will be full or partial

Properly configured header columns help users manage and plan shipments efficiently.

Creating a Full FreightPOP Delivery (FPD)

A full FPD is created when the entire order will be shipped.

Steps

  1. Navigate to Sales Orders

  2. Select the Order

  3. Check the box for the order

  4. Click Create Delivery

  5. Confirm the delivery creation

The system will create an FPD transaction.

The new FPD will appear in:

Outbound Transactions

From there, the delivery can be:

  • Shipped individually

  • Consolidated with other shipments

Creating a Partial FreightPOP Delivery

Partial deliveries are created when only part of the order will ship.

Steps

  1. Navigate to Sales Orders

  2. Switch to the Items View

  3. Review order line items

Recommended column layout:

  • Order Number

  • Product Number

  • Original Quantity

  • Quantity Shipped

  • Quantity Left

This layout helps logistics teams easily manage shipment quantities.

Shipping a Full Line Item

  1. Check the box next to the line item.

  2. The system will ship the full quantity of that item.

Shipping a Partial Line Item

  1. Double-click the Quantity To Shipped field

  2. Enter the quantity to ship

  3. The system automatically selects the line item

This creates a partial shipment for that product.

Multiple line items can be selected for the same delivery.

Finalizing the Partial Delivery

  1. Select the desired line items

  2. Adjust quantities if needed

  3. Click Create Delivery

The system generates the FPD transaction.

What Happens After a Partial Shipment

Once the FPD is created:

  • Fully shipped items are removed from the order.

  • Partially shipped items remain on the order.

The system tracks:

  • Original quantity

  • Quantity shipped

  • Remaining quantity

Additional FPDs can be created later to ship the remaining items.

Quantity Validation Example

If Product Quantity Validation is enabled:

  1. Open the FPD

  2. Navigate to Product Details

  3. Attempt to increase the shipment quantity beyond the original order quantity

The system will display an error message such as:

"This line item cannot be shipped because it exceeds the original order quantity."

This prevents users from overshipping items.

Shipping the FPD

Once the FPD appears in Outbound Transactions, the standard shipping workflow takes over based on the customer's process.

Typical next steps may include:

  • Rating

  • Carrier selection

  • Shipment creation

  • Consolidation with other shipments

  • Dispatch
