FreightPOP provides a connector that enables multiple users to link their local printers and scales to their FreightPOP account. This ensures that labels and documents printed from FreightPOP are automatically sent to their assigned printers. Additionally, the scale integration allows real-time weight data to be transferred directly into FreightPOP during the quoting or shipping process.
Two Ways to Connect Printers & Scales
FreightPOP offers two methods for connecting scales and printers. This guide focuses on Warehouse Stations Printing, which is ideal for:
Multiple users sharing the same set of printers.
Managing printers in groups rather than individually.
How to Set Up Warehouse Stations Printing
Follow these step-by-step instructions to connect your printers and scales to your FreightPOP account using the Warehouse Stations Printing method.
Getting Started
Log into your FreightPOP account.
Navigate to the Company page from the Settings menu.
Enable the Warehouse Stations Printing feature using the blue toggle in the top left corner.
Once the Warehouse Stations Printing feature is enabled, work stations can be created by:
Click on the blue + icon in the top right corner of the page.
Follow the prompts to set up and configure your workstation.
Next, you’ll need to add a workstation by following these steps:
Click the Add Workstation button.
Enter a Workstation Name and ID—these can be defined based on how you organize and manage your printers.
Once created, the system will generate a Workstation Key, which will be needed in a later step
Adding a Printer
Once a workstation has been created, you can begin adding printers to that station.
Click on the View Printers button in the Warehouse Workstations window.
From there, you can select and assign the printers that will be grouped under this workstation.
Managing Printers in a Workstation
Within the Station Printers window, you can:
Add new printers
Edit existing printers
Delete printers from the workstation
Adding or Editing a Printer
When adding or editing a printer, you will need to:
Assign a Printer Name for easy identification.
Define the type of document from FreightPOP that will be sent to this printer (e.g., labels, invoices, packing slips).
Activating a Printer for a Workstation
After adding a printer, you’ll need to activate it for the workstation by defining its printer path.
Retrieve the printer name or path from your computer settings.
Enter this printer path in FreightPOP to ensure the correct printer is assigned to the workstation.
Understanding Printer Paths
Local Printers: May only display the printer name (e.g., "ZDesigner GC420t").
Network Printers: Typically include the full network path (e.g., \PC55.ninealpha.com\ZDesigner GC420t).
Note: Each workstation can have only one printer assigned per document type.
Once your workstations are set up, you’ll need to download and install the FreightPOP Printer Connector on a computer that has access to the assigned printers. This connector enables FreightPOP to communicate with printers on your local computers and network for seamless document and label printing.
How to Download the Connector
Log in to any FreightPOP user account.
Navigate to the User Profile page.
Click the download link for the FreightPOP Connector.
Once downloaded, follow the installation instructions to complete the setup and establish a connection between FreightPOP and your printers.
After downloading the connector, the following screen will appear. Click Install.
The setup execute file will then download to the bottom right of your browser, where it can be opened to begin set up.
After opening the setup file, a blue security window may pop up. Click on the More Info link inside the popup. This will reveal additional options to proceed with the installation. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup. Once installed, the FreightPOP Connector will enable seamless communication between FreightPOP and your local/network printers.
Select Run Anyway.
The system will complete the setup process, and you will see an alert prompting you to enter the FreightPOP credentials for the user who will be using the printers. Click Update User and enter the required login information to finalize the setup.
Enter the Workstation Key generated by FreightPOP when creating the workstation. Click Update User and select WorkStation Login to input the key. This completes the setup and establishes the connection between FreightPOP and the assigned printers.
After entering the FreightPOP key, click the Connect button to confirm that FreightPOP has successfully connected to the local printers.
A message will appear stating "Connection has been made successfully. User Verified" if the workstation key is correct.
To add a scale to the workstation, connect a USB scale to the computer where the connector is installed. Click the Connect Scale button and select the scale from the dropdown menu.
Now the workstation is set up for printing. To allow users to print directly to the printers assigned to the workstation, they must go to their User Profile, enable printing, and select the workstation from the dropdown menu.
To use the scale assigned to the workstation, users must also go to their User Profile and enable the scale.
After seeing the confirmation message, return to the FreightPOP User Profile page and refresh it by clicking the refresh icon in the top left corner of the browser. This ensures that the newly connected workstation and devices are properly updated in the system.
After refreshing the page, the newly created workstation should appear in the dropdown list. Select the workstation within the Printer Preferences, then click Enable Printer Preferences to finalize the setup.
Note: The connector must be opened for the labels and documents to print properly and scales to work. If your system restarts, the connector will automatically open when the bootup process has been completed.
